Calif. Trick-Or-Treaters Warned Of Pot-Laced Candy

Trick-or-treaters in California have been warned to watch out for pot-laced candy this Halloween, the Los Angles Times reported Friday.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department issued the warning to parents in light of candy and snacks containing marijuana being confiscated from pot dispensaries.

The warning comes days before Californians vote on Proposition 19, a marijuana legalization measure.

California has state laws allowing the medical use of marijuana, but the sheriff's department said the confiscated items were untested and unlicensed.

Officials said in their warning that parents should check Halloween candy and other snacks for indications the items were tampered with.

Trip To Tire Store Leads To Large Pot Bust: 350 Pounds

LEBANON -- Warren County authorities said a trip to get a tire fixed has turned into a large marijuana bust.

The Warren County Drug Task Force said the investigation started on Oct. 21 when Richard Lipscomb, 50, brought his car to a Lebanon tire store.

Workers called police after they said they saw Lipscomb dump three garbage bags behind the store.

Officers said they found 17 pounds of marijuana in the bags.

When a search warrant was served on Lipscomb's home, police said they found 60 additional pounds of marijuana.

After further investigation, the drug task force said it went to three locations in Caesar's Creek State Park on Tuesday and found 300 pounds of marijuana.

Lipscomb is charged with possession, trafficking and cultivation of marijuana, as well as possession of criminal tools.

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP Story update

Remember the story about the brothers who got caught in LIBERTY TOWNSHIP READ HERE well here is an update to that.

Jennifer Rollins, who lives nearby with her husband and children, had no idea there was a marijuana grow operation and pot plants valued at more than $1 million inside.

“We were shocked when we heard what it was all about,” Rollins said Thursday. She lives on Paradise Cove near its intersection with Sunrise View Circle, where Butler County Sheriff’s deputies busted two men Wednesday night after responding to a call about a chemical odor coming from the Sunrise house.

It’s a friendly neighborhood where neighbors pitched in and cooked dinners for her family when she had a baby recently, Rollins said.

She had never seen anyone at the house where the pot-growing operation was found, although her husband had occasionally noticed someone in and out at the house, she said.

The two men were arrested after deputies found about 1,050 marijuana plants and a sophisticated indoor grow operation inside the Liberty Township house. Each of the plants could have been sold on the street for about $1,000, the sheriff’s department said.

Deputies went to the house at about 8:40 p.m. Wednesday.

Firefighters found an open window at the back of the house, but when they tried to look inside, someone shoved a piece of drywall against the window to block the view, said Sgt. Todd Langmeyer, of the sheriff’s department’s criminal investigations unit.

Firefighters were still able to see what they thought was pot. And when a deputy approached the front door, he could smell what he thought was marijuana, Langmeyer said.

Once inside, deputies and officials from the sheriff’s department’s drug task force found the entire house being used as a pot-growing operation.

Officers found the plants in various stages of growth, some already harvested and hanging in separate rooms to dry. Ventilation ran from each room, including the basement and attic, Langmeyer said. Planting beds in almost every room measured 4 feet by 8 feet, with each containing hydroponically grown marijuana.

The two men, A. Bay Luong, 46, of Monroe, and Phuc Ky Luong, 50, whose listed address is Oakland, Calif., were found hiding in the attic. They were charged with cultivation of marijuana, a third-degree felony.

But those charges likely will be upgraded, Langmeyer said, once authorities weigh all the pot.

A relative of the suspects appears to own the $247,000 four-bedroom Colonial-style house that was built in 2007 and is valued at $247,000, according to the Butler County auditor.

“It’s a fulltime challenge to combat the war on drugs within the United States, including Butler County,” said Sheriff Richard K. Jones, whose office has twice recently intercepted shipments of pot hidden inside wooden bar units.

Philly Man facing life in prison because of fire caused by pirated electricity

No one likes paying the utility bill, but one criminal probably wishes he had.
A multistate marijuana-growing business was exposed because one operation went up in flames, with the fire caused by pirated electricity through faulty wiring, according to prosecutors.

Anthony Bui, 57, of Philadelphia, the alleged owner of a string of marijuana-growing facilities stretching from Connecticut to Florida, pleaded guilty Wednesday to numerous drug and money-laundering counts.

According to prosecutors, Bui ran lucrative operations out of houses in New Britain, Conn.; Birdsboro, Pa.; Staley, N.C.; and Jacksonville, Fla. He also imported hundreds of pounds of Canadian marijuana, hidden in tractor-trailers, that he distributed along the Eastern seaboard. He plowed his profits into his commercial fishing company in Egg Harbor, N.J., to disguise the source of the money, prosecutors said.

But his empire went up in smoke when a former chicken house, which Bui was converting into a massive growing operation, caught fire in North Carolina in June 2005. As a small blaze burned just outside the house, volunteer firefighters detected a "strange smell." The assistant fire chief opened the door to the oversize coop and discovered the high-tech operation inside. Investigators later determined that the fire had been sparked because the growers were pirating electricity. The wires had been poorly rigged to bypass the electric meter, prosecutors said.

The local power company estimated that the North Carolina operation had stolen $2,261 in electricity from May 20 to June 30, 2005, according to court documents.

DEA agents soon discovered the three other facilities. According to court documents, Bui set up the operation in Connecticut for his son and the son's friend. In Birdsboro, southeast of Reading, marijuana was cultivated in every room of a house and the site could produce 25 pounds of marijuana every few weeks that sold for $2,500 a pound, said U.S. Attorney Zane D. Memeger.

More than a dozen members of Bui's organization have been prosecuted, Memeger said.

Bui pleaded guilty to conspiracy to manufacture more than 1,000 marijuana plants, conspiracy to distribute more than 1,000 kilograms of marijuana, and conspiracy to launder monetary instruments. He will face a maximum of life in prison with a mandatory minimum of 10 years when he is sentenced on Jan. 11, 2011.

Brothers held on million dollar bond after 1,000 pot plants found in home

This is part 2 from the story earlier about the guys hiding in the attic in Liberty Township, for that story you can go Read HERE...
Gangsta
LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - Undercover drug agents in Butler County have made what they are describing as one of the biggest pot busts in the county's history.
Agents raided a home in the 5700 block of Sunrise View Circle in Liberty Township and found 1,050 marijuana plants and an elaborate growing operation inside. The street value of the drugs is estimated at well over a million dollars.
Two brothers were taken into custody. Phuc Ky Luong, 50, and A Bay Luong, 46, are both facing felony cultivation of marijuana charges. They were found hiding in an attic and taken to the Butler County Jail, where they are both being held on a million dollar bond. They will be in court again on Nov. 3.
Around 8:40 Wednesday night, a neighbor called the fire department after smelling a "strong chemical odor" in the area. Upon arrival, a firefighter looked through a basement window and spotted the pot.
Butler County Sheriff's deputies and undercover agents from the Sheriff's Regional Narcotics (BURN) taskforce responded to the scene to discover the elaborate growing operation. Some of the plants were already harvested and were hanging in separate rooms to dry.
Police say A Bay Luong is reportedly from Vietnam and living in Monroe. Phuc Ky Long is a legal resident from China with a listed address in Oakland, Calif.
This is the third large drug bust Butler County officials have made this month. On Oct. 9, officials seized 268 pounds of marijuana and arrested two people. On Oct. 19, 255 pounds of marijuana was seized and one person was arrested.
"It's a fulltime challenge to combat the war on drugs within the United States, particular in Butler County," said Sheriff Richard Jones. "It makes no difference when the drugs are being transported or manufactured from other countries or grown locally. I will not tolerate this type of drug activity in my county."

Brownsville man accused of growing marijuana in baby's bedroom

An alleged drug dealer is facing multiple criminal charges after authorities found marijuana plants being grown in his 4-month-old daughter’s bedroom.
An alleged drug dealer is facing multiple criminal charges after authorities found marijuana plants being grown in his 4-month-old daughter’s bedroom.

Cameron County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrested 23-year-old Brownsville resident Carlos Alberto Moreno on Monday.

Court records released Thursday show that the Sheriff’s Special Investigations Unit received a tip that drugs were being sold from his Glenbrook Drive home.

Investigation

Deputies stopped and arrested a man who had cocaine after leaving Moreno’s apartment.

Court records show the man had close to an ounce of cocaine hidden in his groin.

Deputies saw Moreno and his wife leave their home and stopped them at the IBC Bank off Boca Chica Boulevard and Padre Island Highway.

Court records show that Moreno’s wife told deputies that were drugs inside their home and agreed to a consent search.

The Search

A search of the couple’s home yielded drugs and a handgun with the serial number scratched off.

Deputies found about 9 ounces of cocaine and almost one ounce in ecstasy pills in their home.

Investigators found marijuana being grown in their 4-month-old daughter’s bedroom.

Court records show there was an intense marijuana odor inside the home but that the couple also had three dogs living inside their home.

Deputies wrote that urine and feces could be found throughout the couple’s home making it very unsanitary for their baby.

Criminal Charges

Investigators reported releasing Moreno’s wife because she could not find anyone to take care of their baby but court records show

She’s expected to face charges at a later time.

Deputies charged Moreno with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, child endangerment and tampering with an ID number.

Moreno appeared before Cameron County Magistrate Judge Patricia Edelstein on Tuesday morning where he was issued $60,000 dollars in bonds.

Cameron County Jail records show that Moreno posted bond on Tuesday.

Man charged after marijuana plant spotted growing by window

A 32-year-old Adell man arrested after a marijuana plant was spotted in his window told authorities he didn’t think the plant was illegal since it was just growing and therefore didn’t have marijuana on it, according to charging documents filed today.
Despite the explanation, Nathan G. Huber, 32, of 225 Wisconsin St., was charged with felony counts of marijuana manufacturing and maintaining a drug trafficking place, as well as misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He could face more than three years in prison, if convicted on all counts.

According to a criminal complaint:

An anonymous caller spotted the plant Monday and contacted the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Department. A deputy was dispatched and could see from the driveway that a marijuana plant between two and three feet high was growing in a window on the north side of the house.

Police obtained a search warrant and seized the plant, as well as several small baggies of marijuana, 120 marijuana seeds and drug paraphernalia.

Four men face federal drug smuggling and drug conspiracy charges after the Coast Guard found about 800 pounds of marijuana on a boat off Miami.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office in Miami, Customs and Border Protection agents spotted a suspicious vessel from the air on Oct. 21.

The Coast Guard was dispatched to the 45-foot boat's location about 2 miles east of Miami. The officers boarded the vessel and found the drugs in the forward cabin.

U.S. authorities then arranged for a controlled delivery of the drugs to the boat captain's associates. The three men were arrested when they arrived to pick up the marijuana.

A judge Wednesday ordered two of the men to be detained pending trial. The others face detention hearings Friday.

San Jose police release video of armed takeover of pot club

San Jose police have released a video and photos of two suspects who they say robbed a marijuana dispensary in late September.

The video shows one African-American man wearing a purple backwards-facing baseball cap waving around a gun and taking what appears to be marijuana from behind a case at the Monterey Road Dispensary on Sept. 29 at 11:43 a.m. He is likely in his late 20s to early 30s, standing 6 feet 2 inches and weighing about 250 pounds. He has black short hair, a goatee and tattoos on his forearms.

The other man was wearing a camouflage hoodie over his head and is seen in the video wearing gloves and also holding a gun over what appears to be an employee of the dispensary. The race of the suspect isn't known and his face wasn't shown on the video. He looks to be about 5 feet 7 inches tall and thin.

Police say the suspects ordered two employees to the ground, tied their hands together and also robbed them of their personal belonging, along with cash and pot.

The suspects then fled in a green Honda 4-door.

The suspects did not fire their weapons, police said, and the employees were not hurt.

Broward sheriff's detective suspended after his grand theft arrest

FORT LAUDERDALE —
The Broward County Sheriff's Office has suspended an award-winning detective without pay after his arrest Tuesday on a grand theft charge accusing him of secretly pocketing $1,220 seized during a drug bust.

A sheriff's Internal Affairs investigation concluded that Detective Albury Augustus Burrows, 40, who has served the agency for nearly 11 years, was the only person who could have stolen money last year from a Pompano Beach apartment where marijuana plants were being grown.

Burrows was taken into custody after being summoned late Tuesday to the sheriff's Internal Affairs office, officials said. He was freed from jail early Wednesday after posting $1,000 bail.

Burrows' attorney couldn't be immediately reached for comment, despite a message left at his office Wednesday afternoon.

A drug-sniffing dog alerted officers who found 44 packages worth $134,000, officials said. The driver, a 39-year-old Mexican national from Tijuana, was arrested.
James Dean Stacy, 46, former owner of a marijuana storefront in Vista in northern San Diego County, pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court to felony manufacturing of marijuana. Drug Enforcement Administration agents found 95 marijuana plants during a raid on Stacy's "Movement in Action" store.

Under a plea bargain, Stacy agreed to forfeit $1,175 in marijuana proceeds and a semi-automatic handgun seized at the store.

Prosecutors will not recommend prison time, but sentencing is up to U.S. District Court Judge Barry Moskowitz. Stacy could be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison. Probation for reggae singer BOB Marley's daughter

WTF...

The daughter of legendary reggae musician Bob Marley will spend the next seven years on probation for growing marijuana in her Caln home.

Noting her lack of a prior criminal record, Judge Thomas Gavin on Monday had offered Makeda Jahnesta Marley, the youngest of the reggae singer's acknowledged 13 children, an option to serve two to 23 months in Chester County Prison then be done with court supervision, or to go on probation for seven years and risk the possibility of a 15- to 59-month state prison sentence if she violates the terms of her release.

Gavin called it a Door A or Door B choice.

Marley, 29, chose Door B, probation.

"Thank you, your honor," she said in a hushed voice.

She then left Gavin's courtroom with a

group of supporters, including friends and a younger brother, to report to the Chester County Adult Probation Office.

Under the terms of her probation, Marley will be subject to random drug tests and mandatory requirements to stay away from those who use illegal drugs. Any violation of these terms, Gavin warned, could lead to her incarceration.

Marley was charged in 2009 with growing marijuana in her basement and with tampering with evidence for trying to destroy the plants before police could seize them.

Police found 11 marijuana plants in the house. State law calls for a mandatory one-year prison term for possessing more than 10 plants, but the Chester County District Attorney's Office had decided to waive that mandate in Marley's case.

After Gavin's sentence, Marley's attorney, Thomas Schindler of West Chester, said his client would be able to abide by her probation requirements. He said growing marijuana was an "aberration" in her life.

Schindler had argued that probation would be best in her case, pointing to sentencing guidelines that call for a minimal probation period. He said his client should be given the benefit of the doubt because of her lack of a criminal history.

"It is a fair-minded and practical sentence which places the burden of success squarely on Miss Marley," Schindler said afterward.

Assistant District Attorney Carlos Barraza prosecuted the case and had asked Gavin to sentence Marley to 23 months in prison. Barraza noted Marley had lied to police when they arrived at her home on Sept. 10, 2008, by saying she was going to get a key to her basement to open it for them when in fact she went to the basement to get rid of the plants.

Barraza also noted that Marley had been growing the pot while caring for her 5-year-old son in the house.

Barraza declined to comment on the sentence and said his office would not require any higher degree of attention to Marley's probation because of her famous father.

"We will leave it in the very capable hands of the adult probation office to do what is appropriate," he said.

At her 30-minute sentencing hearing, Marley apologized.

"I'd like to express my deepest sorrow for what I've done," said Marley, dressed conservatively in a dark gray pants suit. "I ask for your mercy in my sentence."

Friends and family who appeared on her behalf all spoke about her worthy character and devotion to her son, Kai, and echoed her request for leniency.

Her younger brother, Troy Crichton, a Philadelphia attorney, said Marley had taken responsibility for what she had done.

"She's a good person who just made a mistake and who is now owning up and taking full responsibility," Crichton said.

Hy Mayerson, a Spring City attorney who said he had known Marley's family for years, said he was shocked to learn that she was growing and using marijuana because her parents, mother Yvette Crichton and stepfather Don Crichton, did not tolerate such activity, as did her father, who was widely known for his use of marijuana.

"She is a good and honorable person," Mayerson said.

Gavin expressed skepticism about Marley's remorse for her actions, noting that the indoor growth of marijuana is not done by accident.

"You are sorry now, but this was an ongoing process," Gavin said. "This was not something that just happened. This took quite a deal of effort and thought on your part."

Gavin said the nine months minimum prison time proposed by Barraza was not a fair sentence, but he said he was not entirely comfortable with a straight probation sentence either. And that, he said, is why he offered her the option of two months in prison now or the threat of 15 months in prison later if she violates her probation.

Gavin gave Marley a few minutes to discuss her options with Schindler outside the courtroom. When they returned, Schindler said she had chosen to remain free on probation.

Marley is a 1999 graduate of Coatesville Area Senior High School and an alumna of West Chester University. She was born in Miami on May 31, 1981, less than three weeks after her famous father died of cancer in that same city. In addition to his widow, Rita Marley, Makeda Jahnesta Marley's mother, Yvette Crichton, is the last of several women with whom Bob Marley is officially recognized as fathering a child.

Bob Marley has extensive family ties in Delaware and was a popular and influential musician who helped promote reggae music and brought attention to the Rastafarian movement, whose followers worship the late Ethiopian leader Haile Selassie and use marijuana as an aid to spiritual enlightenment.

Despite the sentence on the marijuana charge, Marley must report to prison Wednesday. She was sentenced to 72 hours to six months in prison for a DUI charge that arose from a traffic stop in Downingtown on Dec. 28, 2009.

Mafia Lawyer Caught Bringing Pot into Prison...No Arrests Made!!

Gangsta ish...Mob lawyer Seth Ginsberg (left, with lawyer Charles Carnesi) got caught carrying marijuana in his briefcase as he tried to go into Manhattan federal lockup to see a client.

A mob lawyer has been banned from a Manhattan federal lockup after he was caught trying to walk in with a bag of marijuana, sources told the Daily News.

Seth Ginsberg - who was visiting a reputed Gambino soldier when guards found the illicit weed - wasn't arrested.

But he is barred from the Metropolitan Correctional Center while the feds probe whether he was trying to smuggle the pot inside.

"I had no idea there was anything illegal in my bag. I had no intention of bringing anything illegal to my client, nor would he ever ask or want me to," Ginsberg said yesterday.

He blamed the dopey incident on his brother - who swears the marijuana was his.

"Anyone who knows Seth knows this is some crazy happenstance," said lawyer Charles Carnesi.

The rare ban followed Ginsberg's Oct. 12 attempt to see reputed Gambino soldier Thomas Orefice, who is accused of recruiting girls for an underage hooker ring.

The lawyer, who once defended mob scion John A. (Junior) Gotti, stopped at the security tent outside the MCC. There, a correction officer asked him to open his bag, a standard procedure.

Tucked inside a pocket was a plastic sandwich bag that held an undetermined amount of marijuana.

Ginsberg blurted out, "How did that get there?" and pointed the finger at his brother, whom he said had used the bag, a source said.

Ginsberg wasn't allowed to enter, but the officers let him leave the screening area. When he returned a short time later, the bag of marijuana was gone, sources said. Still, he was told he could not come in, sources said.

A correction officer later found what officials believe was the same bag of marijuana in a nearby garbage can, sources said.

The U.S. attorney's office in Manhattan was notified of the breach. A spokeswoman declined comment.

A spokesman for the federal Bureau of Prisons said it did not have the specifics of the case.

Ginsberg's younger brother submitted a sworn affidavit acknowledging the marijuana bag was his, and that has been submitted to investigators, Carnesi said.

Carnesi said the amount of pot in the bag was minimal and briefcases and bags are not even allowed into the client area. "Clearly, this does not rise to the level of an attempt to smuggle anything in," Carnesi said.

Under state law, anyone found with trace amounts of marijuana is hit with a citation. Carrying 2 to 8 ounces is a misdemeanor.

Orefice was drug tested after the incident and passed, a source said.

Man Arrested In Marijuana Drug Bust

A 28-year-old man was arrested Friday afternoon after Kingsland police said they found materials and equipment used to package, weigh and distribute marijuana, along with other illegal paraphernalia and weapons.

Police said they acted on information developed during an investigation that led them to search a home in the 250 block of Pine Bluff Drive, where they arrested Sean Irvin.

Officers said they seized about 4.03 pounds of processed marijuana, a loaded 12-gauge shotgun, a loaded Ruger P-95 9 mm pistol, a loaded .22-caliber rim-fire rifle, two sets of scales used that contained marijuana residue, and a 2002 Ford Expedition.

Irvin is charged with violations of Georgia's controlled substance act, possession of marijuana with intent to sell and distribute, possession of a firearm while in the commission of a felony and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Pa. man complained to police about buying bad pot

A southwestern Pennsylvania man called 911 to complain about some terrible marijuana he had just purchased, which turned out to be something other than pot.

Police say the man told officers he bought the substance earlier that day and that "it was nasty" when he smoked it.

Uniontown Detective Donald Gmitter says a field test determined the substance wasn't pot at all, but police didn't say what it was.

Even though the 21-year-old man didn't technically buy marijuana, he isn't off the hook.

Sgt. Wayne Brown tells the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that Wednesday's incident remains under investigation, and the man could face a charge of possessing a counterfeit controlled substance.

Police make major drug bust in Pasadena

PASADENA, Md. - Police made a major drug bust over the weekend when over $118,000 worth of marijuana was seized from a home in Pasadena.

Members of the Anne Arundel County Police Tactical Narcotics Team and the State Police Interdiction Group had been investigating the home for some time.

On Wednesday of last week officers executed a search and seizure warrant on the home located in the 2100-block of Oakdale Road.

Inside the home police found 5,921 grams of marijuana worth about $118,435, drug paraphernalia, and $14,478 in suspected drug gains.

The resident of the home, Joseph Daniel Devine, 26, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and possession with the intent to distribute

Bucs release Jerramy Stevens after drug bust

Former Seahawks tight end Jerramy Stevens was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday morning after being arrested on three drug charges Saturday evening near the Bucs' team hotel.

Jerramy StevensStevens, 30, has had numerous legal issues since his days at the University of Washington. The Bucs let him go following his arrest on three separate drug charges when police found 38 grams of marijuana in his vehicle after pulling him over because of loud music coming from his truck.

Here's the St. Petersburg Times story with details of his arrest when he was charged with two felonies -- possession of marijuana and intent to sell -- along with a misdemeanor charge for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Stevens was released on $4,500 bail, but the Buccaneers made him inactive for Sunday's game and then cut him Monday.

Stevens was a first-round draft pick of the Seahawks in 2002 and spent five years with Seattle, including the 2005 Super Bowl season.

But his legal issues date back to assault and marijuana arrests while in high school at River Ridge in Olympia, as well as a well-publicized reckless driving incident in college when he ran his vehicle into a nursing home and later plead guilty to hit-and-run.

Stevens has been arrested three times on alcohol charges, including a 2007 conviction for extreme drunken driving in Arizona that resulted in an NFL suspension and 30-day jail sentence.

Stevens was initially accused of marijuana possession in that arrest as well, but the charge was dropped.

Stevens had caught just three passes for 53 yards in Tampa Bay's first five games this season. His career totals stand at 202 receptions for 2,217 yards and 22 touchdowns.

T.I.’s Drug Charges Have Been Dropped !!!!

Way to go T.I...Charges dropped but T.I. still faces jail time for violating his probation.

The D.A.'s Office says that T.I. has already been sentenced to prison since the arrest was a violation of his federal probation. That means he can't be tried for the same offense a second time.

But that's not all. TMZ says that there are problems with how T.I. was arrested. Cops said he was pulled over for an illegal U-turn, but they pulled him out of his car before he showed his license and registration. They also claim to have smelled marijuana, leading to the search, but no marijuana was found

Facebook founders donate $170,000 into pot, marijuana

Facebook is a company with some very personal--if public--quirks.

While allowing ads that support pot legalization, the company forbids pictures of the evil, coma-inducing plant.

Many will be delighted, then, to discover that two of Facebook's co-founders have not foundered when it comes to their own personal views about marijuana.

According to Proposition 19 campaign filings, reported by ABC News, Sean Parker, he of the nasal infractions in "The Social Network," has donated $100,000 to this California ballot measure that seeks to legalize pot in the state.

He is following the lead of his fellow Facebook co-founder, Dustin Moskovitz, who reportedly already donated $70,000 to support the same cause.

These progressive businessmen understand that there are two aspects to the legalization of marijuana. Firstly, most people in California seem to avail themselves of a little smoke once in a while, if only to preserve their own Californian character in times of huge emotional stress caused by economic calamity.

Secondly, because of that economic calamity, they understand that California desperately needs the tax revenue that would be provided by the pot trade suddenly being elevated to a position above the counter.

What is, perhaps, astonishing in the run-up to elections for California governor in November, is that former eBay CEO and vast campaign spender Meg Whitman and tall, bald, permanent politician Jerry Brown--the two candidates--have not been asked whether they have ever partaken of the state's symbolic herb.

Surely there are votes to be won (or lost) by stirring the pot.

The Post says that police arrested Arenstein and his wife, Orly Azoulay, and charged them with possession with intent to distribute marijuana. Azoulay is the Washington correspondent for Yedioth Ahronoth, the largest and most widely read newspaper in Israel.

Police executed a search warrant at the home Saturday, according to the Post, after a tip, and found 11 fully mature marijuana plants and six two-ounce bags of marijuana inside the home. Each plant is considered by authorities to equal one pound of marijuana.

Rapper, brother accused of growing pot at home

Authorities have discovered 850 marijuana plants at a home in the 4500 block of Creek Point Lane in Missouri City.

Plants filled the second story of the large home, which had been converted specifically for the manufacturing of marijuana, officials said Friday.

Fort Bend County Narcotics Task Force Capt. Rodney Glendening said it was a large, elaborate system compared to others the task force has encountered.

"This is a 5,000-square-foot home. There were six rooms full of marijuana," said Glendening, estimating that the plants would have yielded up to $4.2 million in a year's time.

The Fort Bend County Narcotics Task Force had been investigating the home, the resident Bernard Harry Theriot, 36, and his brother Bryan Andrew Theriot, 32, for several months.

Bernard Theriot was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana and delivery of marijuana. Bryan Theriot, a Houston rapper known as Tow Down, was arrested on warrants for delivery of marijuana and for possession of marijuana, cocaine and hydrocodone. He was out on bond at the time of this arrest on charges related to a marijuana-manufacturing bust at his residence a year ago, Glendening said.

The brothers are being held at the Fort Bend County Detention Facility.

Glendening said that the investigation started when marijuana sellers that were arrested offered information on the growing location.

"We started at the street level and worked our way up," Glendening said. "We consider this a professional grow."

The plants were hydroponic marijuana, a high-grade marijuana known on the streets as "hydro."

Now there goes the neighborhood...
