Ad man turned drug mule is ready to do his time.
Five years ago, Chris Neary was a rising star in the world of marketing, pulling down a six-figure salary and running a successful campaign for Telus with its animal-themed series of TV ads.

Today he’s awaiting the start of an eight-month sentence for conspiracy to import and distribute marijuana in the United States.

“I’m not happy about it, but I know it could have been be a lot worse,” Mr. Neary said in an interview a few days before he was sentenced Friday in U.S. District Court in Seattle. “I’m comfortable that I can serve the time and still have all my faculties so when I come out I can use it as a springboard to something great.”

Mr. Neary, the owner of Vancouver ad agency Frank Communications and former director of marketing for Telus, was arrested on April 26, along with four other men, after hiking 16 hours through the rugged Washington state wilderness with a 15-kilogram pack full of marijuana on his back
