A southern Illinois sheriff who refused to resign despite facing charges of trafficking marijuana and hatching a failed murder-for-scheme while jailed may soon be forced out.
Gallatin County Board Chairman Randy Drone says the board will meet Monday to take up ousting Raymond Martin, who was convicted Thursday of all 15 federal counts he faced.
Martin has refused to resign despite the charges that accused him of selling marijuana while serving as sheriff, then scheming while jailed to have witnesses killed. Nobody was hurt.
He was found guilty of all 15 counts related to marijuana dealing and witness tampering.
