800 pounds of marijuana found in planes in Lake County
Lake County Sheriff's office, the Drug Enforcement Administration and Immigration and Customs Enforcement made a big bust in a small city.
Over 800 pounds of marijuana and $30,000 in cash were confiscated from two airplanes at the Umatilla Municipal Airport in Umatilla on Sept 19.
Lake County sheriff’s patrol deputies, narcotics detectives, Umatilla police officers, and agents from DEA and ICE acted on a tip after two airplanes landed in Lake county from Texas. The two airplanes were searched by a K-9 when the discovery was made.
Three people were arrested on drug trafficking charges. Christopher Shirley, 35, Meagan Brower, 26, and Michael Lwin, 33, were arrested but were released on bond Wednesday. Lwin posted a bond of $10,000, Brower posted a bond of $20,000 and Shirley post a bond of $55,000.
Anabolic steroids belonging to Shirley were also found and confiscated. The marijuana had a street value of $800,000.
The two airplanes were seized and are currently being stored at the Leesburg International Airport, pending future proceedings. Three vehicles and the cash are also pending as part of this investigation.
The next court date is Oct. 13.
