Police snare $200,000 in I-90 pot bust

A California man carrying 40 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of his car on Interstate 90 is being held in Pennington County Jail on a $100,000 bond.

South Dakota Highway Patrol Lt. David Berkley estimated the street value of the marijuana at $200,000.

Jason M. Dailey, 32, of Gardena, Calif., was stopped Saturday near mile post 69 for following too closely, Berkley said.

A drug dog detected the marijuana during a walk around the car, Berkley said.

Dailey is charged with two Class 3 felonies for possession with intent to distribute more than one pound of marijuana and possession of more than 10 pounds of marijuana. If convicted, he faces a potential maximum sentence of 15 years in prison on each charge.

Dailey is also charged with a Class 2 misdemeanor for possession of drug paraphernalia.
